Story
On the 20th November 2016 we will be taking part in the Great Ethiopian 10k Run in Addis Abada in aid of Orbis Ireland, a sight saving and international blindness prevention charity.
AWAS along with Boeing and Ethiopian Airlines are very generously sponsoring Orbis Ireland's trip to the Great Ethiopian Run 2016. This means that every cent we raise will go directly to their sight saving work in southern Ethiopia.
Over 40,000 people with take to the streets of Addis Abada to
take part in Africa's biggest road race a challenging 10k run at 10,000ft above sea level. On the day, a huge variety of runners from all age groups and fitness levels take part. A carnival atmosphere takes over the city as the crowd surges forward.
All donations will help Orbis in their vital sight-saving mission. Over the past eight years Orbis have raised almost €750,000 through participating in the Great Ethiopian Run.
Orbis is dedicated to the treatment and prevention of blindness
in the developing world. This is done through the teaching of sight saving skills to eye care professionals in local hospitals and aboard the Orbis Flying Eye Clinic. These professionals have passed on their expertise to tens of thousands of others. Orbis also works with communities, governments and hospitals to improve healthcare facilities and foster awareness of eye health.
