We help the people of the Spiti Valley to improve their quality of life

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On the 28th April 2013 I will be completing the Hope and Glory 14 mile walk in the Peak District in memory of my Grandma who passed away last year. My Grandma was a generous, loving and creative individual who lived life to the full. By completing the walk I hope to raise money for the Spiti Project in India, a charity which was very close to my Grandma’s heart.

The Spiti project

The Spiti Valleyis a remote area high in the Himalayas situated on the Tibetan plateau with almost no rain and snow-covered for 8 months a year. Although originally Tibetan, it's been part of India since the mid 19th century and virtually closed off from the World for most of the last 50 years.

For the population of 10,000 people, life is hard and physically tiring at an altitude of 12,000 feet, yet the people are warm hearted and generous by nature, with a strong sense of spirituality.

The Spiti Project's mission is to improve the quality of life for Tibetan communities living in the Spiti Valley by working with the local people to promote health care, education and their unique cultural heritage.

More information about the project can be found using the following link: www.spiti.org
