Story
After discovering at my routine 20 week ultrasound scan that my identical twin boys both had Club Feet ( Talipes), I was overwhelmed with anxiety and used the Internet to learn more about what this could mean for them. The huge range of information I found did nothing to alleviate my stress. However, when I was made aware of Steps, the support and information I got from them helped me enormously.
The work that Steps does to support parents in my situation is invaluable in reassuring them, that this diagnosis is not the end of the world and that with the correct treatment, children should have pain free functioning feet and be just as active as any other child.
Reading other parents' stories through the Steps online community is a fantastic way to have support with the practical and emotional journey throughout treatment as well as getting the reassurance of seeing so many positive results.
My twin boys are now 8 yrs and are active runners, cyclists, gymnasts. I have acted as a 'Buddy' for Steps to support new parents and it is wonderful to be able to offer support to others experiencing the distress that I experienced all those years ago.
I have also had two friends who's daughters were diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia and I was able to refer them to Steps for information and support.
I will be running in April for all those for whom learning to walk has been or continues to be a challenge.
