Thank you for visiting my page and reading my story
Dear friends, Smiling World Foundation is working hard to fund raise in order to set up a Dental School in Sierra Leone. There are over 6.5 m people living in Sierra Leone and there are only 3 dentists. Children and adults live in abject poverty and suffer constantly of several conditions many of which are oral related which can ultimately lead to death.
Our vision is to see the children of Sierra Leone grow up free of oral disease by providing them education, giving them self esteem and the opportunity to increase their quality of life.
We travel all across Sierra Leone, reaching schools, orphanages and communities treating oral disease, paying particular attention to those in isolated parts of the country.
Smiling World was founded by Dr Raffaella Gabassi in 2012 as one of the very few charitable organisations established to promote oral health trough education. We reach remote villages, treating and educating children in destitute situations and give them hope and understanding.
This country has seen a devastating civil war lasting for longer than 10 years, this left the children of Sierra Leone without a decade of education as schools and all institutions were shut down, then as it started it's slow recovery, still remaining one of the poorest countries in the world despite it's natural richness in natural resources, several devastating events carried on beating down on this stricken country, the most horrific being the recent outbreak of Ebola which killed thousands of people across Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea.
SWF was proud to help relieve the Ebola situation by sending out 5 ambulances and by training the 6 members of it's team by teaming up with King's College of London and the Public Health of England in cross infection control, where they all set out risking their own lives to teach the population about the risk of contracting the disease and how to avoid spreading it.
The goal of opening a Dental School is a dream that will come true in time, due to the efforts of SWF and the efforts of our dedicated team in Freetown.
Please be one of the special people that can help this dream come true, and therefore contribute to the end of unnecessary suffering and ultimately death.
I extend a warm thank you and my extreme gratitude for your care and support on behalf of SWF and the children of Sierra Leone.
Dr Raffaella Gabassi
