Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.  I will be undertaking different fundraising activities for Rainbow Valley over the following years however first up is the Trossachs 10K.  Anyone that knows me knows I cannot run the length of myself and so this is a pretty BIG deal for me!! 

Rainbow Valley is a charity close to my heart as it was inspired by my niece, Johanna MacVicar, who was diagnosed with leukaemia at the age of 16.  In 2005, Johanna sadly lost her fight against the illness. Johanna’s love of rainbows has inspired those who loved her to bring together Rainbow Valley.

During her 11 year battle with cancer Johanna took advantage of hospice care and tried to explore complementary therapies.  Johanna found sourcing therapies an exhausting task and it was also an expensive journey for someone who through ill health, could not work.  Although medically she had been given the best of care, Johanna felt there was something missing, and believed that there should be a centre dedicated to exploring the different types of holistic and alternative therapies (both innovative and traditional) that could complement hospital treatments and enhance the recovery from chemotherapy and radiotherapy.  It was Johanna’s belief that nutrition, exercise and diet could also play a significant role in controlling, and hopefully reversing, her condition.

Being diagnosed with cancer leaves everyone involved bewildered, scared & vulnerable. Like most people when first diagnosed, Johanna felt very out of control of her life, and the difference Rainbow Valley would have made to her and her family and friends would have been immense.

Everyone involved in Rainbow Valley shares a passion to make a difference in the battle against cancer in a positive manner and we look forward to raising our target amount that will help us bring Rainbow Valley to fruition.
