Story
Auckland to Wellington Charity cycle ride in aid of Oru Pannai
Oru Paanai is a UK based charity. It was started when we learned that many children in schools were frequently fainting in the class due to a lack of food.
"Oru Paanai" means One Pot, which is a familiar Tamil expression. It describes our shared heritage and humble beginnings. It evokes a sense of communal responsibility, one of which is sharing life's most basic need, food - Our Food - with those who are less fortunate than us.
Oru Paanai mainly provides lunches to school children in Sri Lanka. At present we are helping to feed over 43,000 children in the North and East. In addition, we help in a small way to organise and fund tuition classes for disadvantaged children. Recently we completed a pilot project to provide well water for the destitute people of Wanni.
Please see www.orupaanai.org.uk/ for further details . I am a trustee of this charity and I can guarantee that 100% of money raised will go to the schools.
I am undertaking this cycle ride in order to raise money for this charity. I am cycling from Auckland to Wellington via Rotorua and returning via Palmerston North starting on the 18thof January 2016 – a total of nearly 1700 Km. I will be cycling alone without support. I will be using minor roads (avoiding highways or major roads).
Please give generously and support this charity.
