Story
Meet
the Boy Next Door
With the absence of a detained father felt even more acutely during this month,
Ramadhan can be a drastically different experience for a HHUGS family. Aged 8,
Yusuf has spent the past five Ramadhans without his father, barely able to
recall what the month was once like. Whilst Ahmad gathers daily around the
table for suhur and iftar in the warm embrace of his family, Yusuf's family
gatherings are held across a table in a visitor's room, in high security
prisons, surrounded by others, for an hour, at most once a week. For Yusuf’s
mother, financial strain, social isolation and the pressures of managing a
family alone takes its toll.
This Ramadhan, join hands with HHUGS and tell the Boy Next Door: You’re Not
Alone.

love for the home next door too. The joy a thoughtful present will bring is a
beautiful investment to make.

“The Eid parties, the presents - it's made me feel as though I'm not alone. My
children were so happy to see me happy and smiling. They began to feel special
and we finally started to feel more normal. HHUGS saw us as human beings. They
treated us as part of the Ummah.”
"The most beloved of the people to Allah are the most beneficial for the people. The most beloved of actions to Allah are to cause happiness to reach a Muslim, to relieve him from a hardship, to settle a debt for a Muslim or to repel hunger from him.” (at-Tabarani)
