Having decided that I wanted to raise some money to say thanks to
The Hospice of the Good Shepherd that helped my family throughout my mum’s terminal battle with cancer, which she lost on the 18th Feb 2016, the difficult part was what on earth to do. Coffee mornings and sponsored walks were certainly not something that sprang to my mind, I needed something a bit different. After trawling the internet, I
stumbled upon the Motoscape Rally “Road trip to Prague” on the 3rd
September 2016 and I thought now this something I can do and my mum would certainly have said “go for it”.
The idea that I, an 18 year old could take a banger costing
less than £333 or a car over 20 years old on a 7 day, 12 country journey
covering more than 2000 miles sounded like an epic way to celebrate my mums life and try to raise some money through sponsorship to give to the Hospice in her name.
Having discussed the idea with my dad and some friends, I signed up and have been generously loaned a 1966 Sunbeam Alpine to compete in
but with my mechanical know how limited to tyre pressures, oil and water checks and more importantly what track to put on the stereo, I’m in for a very steep learning curve on vehicle mechanics!
So if you’d like to make a donation in my mum's name via my Just Giving page, that would be most appreciated and wish me luck getting back home – don’t want to miss my first day of University do I!?
As a foot note, all costs associated with this have been funded by my dad: insurance, fuel, accommodation etc. but if anyone would like to offer support in any of these areas, that would also be well received.
