"Children our future",
I know realize how lucky I was in growing up in the countryside, a life experience which has and is still serving me so well. The warmth of home cooked food, the expectations awaiting for your favorite dish salivating at the various smells and aromas emanating from the pots and pans.
I have fond memories in helping my Grandparents with some kitchen garden duties, understanding and appreciating our freshly grown produce. Being shown how to pick only the ready/ripe items paying attention not bruise or spoil any in the process.
Today in this fast & frenetic digital modern age we all give in too easily to convenience foods, however by doing so it breaks the circle leading to children missing out in the most basics and enjoyable of life experience. The recognition, knowledge, tasting and feel of produce and ingredients, I can’t stop thinking that our future generations are getting cheated out of one real joys of life.
In order to ensure that our future generations don’t miss out, would it not be a great idea if we could adopt a school, paying regular visits teaching and educating children to appreciate products of the land and sees and with it nutrition values at ground level.
The Royal Academy of Culinary arts with their "Chef adopt a school" program have been very busy doing just that.
This year I have committed myself to running 6 half marathons with the goal of raising much needed cash for this great and worthy charity and in the process attempting to set my new PB of 1.30 hrs. No easy thing for someone which will be applying for a "Free bus pass" in the near future.
Runs start:
Edinburgh Half - 31 May,
Rock & Roll Liverpool half, 14 June
Wales Half (starting at Pembroke Castle), 5th July
Scottish half Marathon, Edinburgh, 19 September,
Great Scottish Run, Glasgow half, 4th October
Rock & Roll Lisbon, 18 October
