*** PLEASE NOTE THE EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL AND WILL NOW OCCUR ON THE 9th SEPTEMBER 2017 ***
Where do we start?
So firstly let us say thank you! You obviously either know myself (Richard) or Ben in one capacity or another and we appreciate you taking the time to check out what we have chosen to put ourselves through in aid of charity. So first lets explain why we are putting ourselves through this challenge!
We have previously been known to participate in charity events over many years, however we have our last major fundraising event was back in 2010. This break from fundraising has been down to many factors and changing circumstances - well ok lets be honest and because Ben deciding to leave the UK and travel the world while "finding himself". But we have finally achieved some stability in life and this year is going to be a big year for us both with Ben expecting his first child with his fiancé and I am expecting my second child with my wife in the very near future.
Starting or growing a family is a big challenge for anyone and fingers crossed it all goes to plan for both families. Unfortunately things don't always go to plan and situations can occur that are out of our control.
A Child of mine is a very special charity that provides support to families that have had the most unimaginable loss, after a baby or child has died. They are there to hold your hand and help you through the days ahead with practical information, guidance and support from people who really understand your situation. They also provide support to other groups such as children who have lost siblings, parents or other significant loss within their lives.
I was lucky enough to become an acquaintance of this charity and it really touched my heart. I was introduced to Gayle who runs the charity and I have not met someone so selfless and kind in a very long time .What jumped out at me was that this is a real charity and not a charity enterprise where you don't know where your donations were ending up. I am whole heartedly behind the charity and hope you will all be willing to make a contribution however big or small to provide support to these families.
Ben and I like to take on a challenge but this is definitely something different! Firstly let us be very clear! We are paying for the trip ourselves, the entry, the flights the whole kit and caboodle. This means that every penny we raise will go directly to the charity itself.
The challenge itself involves whote water rafting down the Zambezi, one of the BIGGEST white-water rivers in the world! Beneath the mist of the stunning Victoria Falls, deep in the Batoka Gorge would have to be one of the most dramatic places in the World to start a challenging white-water rafting trip. From the very first rapid encountered, we will embark on a river journey with some of the most exhilarating white-water and spectacular scenery that we will ever experience in our lifetime. Exceptionally challenging, The Zambezi Blast rafting expedition will take us through some of the worlds biggest commercially run rapids – this challenge is not for the faint hearted.
From the best white-water on the planet, amazing sandy beaches, to a helicopter flight through the Batoka Gorge and over Victoria Falls – Africa delivers a feast of adventure.
