Story

My wife Gill and I first met Tom Langridge in 1989, quite by chance in a local pub, after reading an article in a local newspaper about a trip he had just made to Nepal. Over the subsequent years Tom and his family became very special friends. He had served with the Queens Gurkha Engineers (QGE) travelling to Nepal on a number of occasions.Tom had decided to build a school in Nepal in the remote village of his very close Nepalese friend Chandra Bahadur Gurung, with whom he had served in the QGE. We helped to raise the money for this first school and accompanied Tom to Nepal in 1991 to open the school. Whilst in Nepal it was agreed to build another school and hence was born The Pahar Trust Nepal (PTN) which became a registered charity in 1993. Both Gill and I became trustees of the trust under the chairmanship of Tom and the PTN went from strength to strength and continues to flourish today having now completed over 100 projects in Nepal, details of which can be seen through the link to The Pahar Trust Nepal website.

Unfortunately, in 2010 Tom died suddenly and then in 2013 my wife Gill also died very suddenly. We all travelled to Nepal on a number of occasions and loved the country and the people so much that I wanted to do something in Nepal to remember Gill and Tom. Hopefully by building a number of medical centres in their joint memory some good can come to the people of Nepal. I do not have any target as to the number but hope to continue raising money and building medical centres for a number of years to come. All the medical centres will be built by The Pahar Trust Nepal and will be in remote areas throughout Nepal.

Thank you to everybody for your support and to The Pahar Trust for agreeing to build the medical centres.

I would like to thank Elena, Tony and Benat Quartararo for their magnificent donation of over £2000 and they have written the following tribute to Gill : "Elegant, lovely, intelligent, soulful, thoughtful, kind, loving, gentle...these words are a mere drop in the ocean of the words that would describe the goodness of Gill Crowther. There is not room or patience of the reader to list all the wonderful attributes that Gill possessed using simple words. Moreover, she INSPIRED all who met her to do all they could to reach her level. You wanted to stand taller, do better, be kinder, expand your vocabulary - again the list goes on. Gill touched our lives in so many ways. Although our lives crossed in the recent past, it was the kind of friendship that transcends years. It began in the heart, it felt as though we had known each other for all our lives. But that too was the magic of Gill - she never met a stranger, nor did anyone ever feel any less than a welcome friend. She continues to inspire her beloved Dick and together they continue to better the world with their good works. We miss her physical presence but know that she now lives in all of us. We love you sweet lady, until we meet again!"
