Story

I’ve committed with a some good friends to climb a few hills in a remarkably short period of time and it turns out they are not even that close to each other!

For some people this would not be too much of an inconvenience but having been dragged up far too many hills by munro bagging parents I am inherently agoraphobic and therefore the whole idea spending a couple of days climbing the highest mountains in Wales, England, Scotland and then topping it off with trip up Goatfell on Arran is my idea of purgatory.

In recognition, of what I am sure will be a miserable couple of days marked by damp clothes, blisters and feeling sick in the back of a transit van, I was hoping to convince you to part with a few pounds in aid of a couple of worthwhile charities.  Firstly Arthritis Research UK, who fund a huge amount of world class research into causes and, hopefully, one day, a cure to this debilitating illness. As some of you know, my lovely other half was recently diagnosed with this condition.

The other charity is Arran Mountain Rescue,  a fine body of volunteers who risk their own lives in aid of people injured and lost on the mountains as well as rescuing drunk Glaswegians who wander up Goatfell in their Green Flash and shorts.

The picture above was taken when I was 19, the last time I went anywhere near a mountain, you can tell I am hating it!

Any donations will be delightfully received.

Arran MRT goes to the aid of people injured and lost on the mountains, moors and forests of the Isle of Arran. It also promotes a better understanding of the skills & techniques required for safe hill walking and climbing to the community of Arran and the general public at large. It is almost totally supported by fund raising by team members and donations from the general public.
