Story
On Sunday 31st July I am taking part in the Prudential 100 Mile cycle ride. This is an annual event which starts at the Olympic Stadium, going through Canary Wharf and the City, before going deep into the heart of Surrey and then heading back through London, eventually finishing by cycling up The Mall. It is effectively the route that was used in the 2012 Olympics.
This is the first time that I will have competed in this ride, and it promises to be a very long and lonely morning, afternoon & (probably) evening, as none of my other cycling buddies managed to get a place in the ballot. I’ll only have another 25,000 or so cyclists for company.
This is a major fundraising event. I wasn't originally going to raise any funds, as I'm very conscious about burdening the same people to sponsor me and I have done a couple of sponsored events over
the last few years or so. However, the places in the Pru 100 are in such huge demand that I felt I had to take advantage of having been lucky enough to have been given a place. Having made that decision, I knew I could look no further than to try to raise some funds for Jewish Care, who provided me with fantastic help in looking after my darling Mum before she passed away in February this year.
Jewish Care was there when we needed them and offered great support, helping to make Mum's last year or two much more comfortable than would otherwise have been the case. I would really love to raise some funds for them as my way of thanking them for the fantastic help they provided, not only to my Mum, but to so many others.
100 miles is way beyond my comfort zone and I'm seriously under-trained, but whilst I'm cramping up and going through umpteen pain barriers, it would be good to know that that pain was helping to raise funds for a fantastic cause.
If you are able to offer a donation to the charity, I and they would be extremely grateful.
Thank you
