Story
The Oxford Big Sleepout aims to raise money for Oxford's homeless charities whose funding is being radically cut due to government cutbacks.
I do a lot of volunteering at O'Hanlon House (the homeless shelter) including helping in the kitchen every Thursday. Beaui and Andy were clients there: they are the top two photos on the book cover. They died earlier this year. Andy was intense, supportive of young homeless people, an angry spokesman for the poor, with amazing blue eyes. Beaui was like a sparkler - all dark and light, prancing around in pigtails and fake fur coat one minute, and drinking himself into oblivion the next. I miss both of them.
I will be acting as a volunteer and first aider on the night, in memory of B&A, but also for all the other clients of Oxford's homeless services.
