Story
I'll be running the West Highland Way challenge race on the 28th May in memory of my late son Charlie and to raise money for Strathmore special needs school in Ham.
Charlie was an incredibly special boy, who brought great joy to his family and many others that he touched in his short life, despite the many challenges he had to face which included autism and epilepsy. No matter how tough the West Highland Way will be (and at 95 miles with over 12,000 feet of climbing, non stop I expect it to be plenty hard enough) I'll have the inspirational memory of the toughest person I have ever encountered, in Charlie.
Strathmore is a very special place, and the team there make a real difference to the lives of special needs children and their families. The defining characteristic of the staff is that they see possibility and potential in the children, rather than limitation.
Caring for and educating special needs children is expensive and the Friends of Strathmore School do a great job of fundraising to support the school's statutory income. The school is hoping to build a new hydrotherapy pool, which is close to my heart because Charlie, like many special needs children, was always at home and comfortable in the water. To do this, they need to raise around £25,000.
On behalf of the school, I really appreciate your support.
