We raise funds for Suicide Prevention to stop people taking their own lives.

Story

We are raising money for a great charity called Hectors House. The charity was named after Hector Stringer, a friend of both of ours, who took his own life in 2011 at just 18 years old. Hector, on the outside was the happiest person you could meet. He was a very talented musician, had a whole heap of friends and a loving family but on the inside he was struggling. He didn't talk to anyone about what troubled him and in the end it became too much.

This charity is dedicated to preventing male suicide. In 2014, 76% of suicides were males and is the single biggest cause of death of men under 45 in the UK.There is a stigma around men in particular talking about their feelings and Hectors family have been going in to schools to speak to the students about mental health issues. Even one life saved makes it worthwhile. They also support other charities like CALM in raising awareness.

In an attempt to get you all to part with your very hard earned cash, Jenny and I have decided to put ourselves through the wringer and run a full marathon! 26.2 gruelling, exhausting, pain riddled miles. This is going to hurt. A lot. So please donate to this wonderful cause that has a personal meaning to us and our friends.

Thank you.

Set up in honour of Hector Giles Henry Stringer, who took his own life in 2011 at the age of 18. His friends and family would do anything to have him back and to prove to him and others in crisis that things can and will get better, suicide is preventable and there is help, we are here to help.
