Story
Dearest Bob finally left us on Tuesday 31st January, 2012, at the grand old age of 90 after a wonderful life. Barely a year after the loss his beloved wife, Sonia. He will be greatly missed by those he left behind. The quieter of the two he was nevertheless the "rock" of the family. His greatest passion outside his family was a love of English churches and his bookcase was full of every conceivable reference book on the subject. One building however stood out for him - Durham Cathedral. He showed me an old book at Christmas - one of a few possessions he kept with him in the little room of his nursing home in Gevrey Chambertin in France. Inscribed with his name and dated 1934, he told me it was the first book which he ever bought at the tender age of 13 - a history of Durham Cathedral. He would be delighted that any donation in his memory would go to the restoration of this beautiful cathedral which also represented a symbol to his life long attachment to the north-east of England where he was brought up and of course to his deep faith which was unswerving .
Rest assured that any donation you wish to make in Bob's memory is going to the most worthy of causes.
