Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am taking part in the Prudential Ride, London - Surrey 100, which as the name suggests is a 100 mile cycle ride starting and ending in London and going out into the Surrey countryside.
Those that know me probably think I'm totally barking even attempting such a feat, but I want to help raise money for this charity to try and find more effective and permanent cures and improve the treatments available today.
Cancer is an awful disease which most, if not all of you, either know or have known someone who has had or has been affected by cancer.
There are many types of cancer some more aggressive than others, some easier to cure than others, but to date there is no one single cure for them all.
I have had personal experience with cancer, my dad, Edwin, had Lung Cancer which he died of, my mothers long term partner of 25 years, Bert, also died of lung cancer last year.
Some of you may know, but I too had a form of cancer when I was younger. Something called Hodgkin Lymphoma and was lucky enough to have been cured. My wife Vickie, unfortunately lost her mother Sheila, to non-Hodgkin Lymphoma.
So you can see it's a bit of a personal crusade, but I'm not riding a white charger, just a bike 100 miles in and around London.
In the past it's been me putting my hand in my pocket for all the worthy causes friends and family have taken part in and thought I'm long overdue a sponsored event and therefore it's my turn to rattle the collection tin.
Even the smallest of donations will be gratefully received, so please help me reach my target and hopefully exceed it.
I'll try and add updates on how my training progresses, but If you should see a middle aged bloke riding a road bike, dressed in dodgy looking lycra with a beer belly, drive past slowly as it may well be me!
If you've read this far thank you very much for reading my story and now all you have to do is scroll back to the top of the page and click donate!
For those that haven't read this far I'm guessing you've already clicked donate?
Thanks
Robin
