Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. Many of you will be aware that I lost my beloved Mum 6 years ago this September, just days after we celebrated her 60th birthday. She is always in my thoughts and remains a source of inspiration on a daily basis. Mum lived in a world of silence having been born deaf therefore I'm raising money for DELTA (Deaf Education through Listening & Talking).
DELTA is a small charity which makes big differences to the lives of deaf children. I've chosen DELTA for two reasons. Firstly, instead of learning to use sign language when she was a child my Mum learned how to lip-read and talk. This opened up many more opportunities throughout her life and enabled her to communicate normally with hearing people. Secondly, my Mum loved children, particularly her grandkids! DELTA stands for both of these values therefore I'm delighted to be supporting them.
Money raised will go towards DELTA's summer camps where deaf children have fun learning life's developmental skills. At the same time their parents attend workshops to gain valuable information on how to raise their child in a hearing world.
So what am I doing to gain your support? On September 15th I shall be taking to the streets of Newcastle to participate in the Great North Run, the world's biggest half marathon. 13 miles of aches, pains, stitches and sweat but no doubt great memories.
I've set my fundraising target at €500 however really want to blast through this. With your help I can achieve this goal and you can feel proud that you're helping to enhance the lives of so many deaf children.
Donating through my Justgiving fundraising page is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: DELTA receives your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So if you're feeling charitable please sponsor me. No amount is too small as every penny makes a difference.
Thanks for all your support and I'll keep you posted on how the big day goes!
