Story
I'm raising money by swimming with like-minded characters across some odd places. We call ourselves "The Ayrshire Crocs" after the famous and original Crocodile Rock sitting in the bay at Millport on the Isle of Cumbrae. The challenge of swimming "openwater" is pretty serious: we're not just at the shoreline, in a lake or a pool but this is man-against-nature, wrestling weather, large waves and larger jellyfish. We're swimming for Gillian's Saltire Appeal which makes a real difference to the lives of cancer sufferers and those around them. The appeal raises funds to provide and maintain respite accommodation for cancer sufferers, their families and carers in Ayrshire and other parts of Scotland. So please help this worthy cause and give generously: whether or not the weather wins on the day. We're tackling three swim-challenges this year :
(1) Swimming on July 2nd from Gourock to Dunoon (about 2 miles) completely across the Clyde in the shadow of the Argyll peaks.
(2) Swimming on July 16th for a 2 mile adventure below the old cranes of London Docklands as part of The Great London Swim.
(3) From the Isle of Cumbrae where the small town of Millport sits in the Firth of Clyde near Glasgow back to the mainland at Largs. About 1.5 miles offshore it is another world away from the hustle and bustle of modern life.
Please give what you can, not for our effort, which only highlights the need, but for Gillian's Saltire Appeal. Thank you!
