In February 2015 my baby son, Percy, was rushed to P.I.C.U
with a life threatening infection. Thankfully, I am very happy to
say he has since made a full recovery. The treatment and care he
received was first class and we cannot thank the nurses and staff enough.
Currently on the ward there are two rooms available for
parents to use whilst their child is in P.I.C.U. and the hospital desperately
need four new parent beds for these rooms. Understandably hospital
funding is directed towards the treatment of the babies and children so we
would like to raise enough money to improve those spaces which facilitate the
parents.
These rooms are invaluable; allowing parents to stay close
to their child and are important spaces for rest and privacy during the most
stressful of times. After having spent time on the unit and meeting
other parents of acutely ill children, I feel it is vitally important. The
parents who are working in shifts round the clock to be with their child;
parents of the babies who haven't ever been out of hospital; or heartbreakingly
the parents who are staying with their child while organ donations are being
arranged. This is the reality of the P.I.C.U.
Our main aim is to raise enough money via Helping Hand
Charity for four new beds of hospital specification. Anything
over and above this amount will go towards other areas that can make the
children's hospital a better place. Please help us achieve this by
donating whatever you can.
Please join us on Friday 29th May for champagne cocktails, treats, with luxury ballot prizes to be won. We are running the event from 12-8pm with live jazz from 6-8pm, to coincide with Holywood Jazz Festival. All proceeds will go to Helping Hand. Thank you for your support.
