Story
On 10th April, I will take part in the infamous Marathon des Sables. What is hailed as the "toughest foot race on earth" constitutes 250 kilometres/155 miles across the Sahara desert over 6 day stages.
The race is self sufficient, so we competitors must carry all food, emergency medical equipment and bivouac kit for the duration.
Although there are now several multi-stage ultra marathons across the world, it is the terrain - many miles of sand dunes - as well as running in 120/55 degree heat that makes MDS the ultimate challenge.
If I survive day 4, the long stage of 90km, then I hope to complete the race!
Although I paid for the event some time ago, it seems that this is too good an opportunity to let pass, and not make some good of it. Therefore as my running partners son was quite recently diagnosed with Crohns/Colitis, I have chosen to support a charity that represents this cause. The Crohns in Childhood Research Association (CICRA) are dedicated to research and development in this field. Crohns & Colitis can be debilitating for youngsters, therefore I would ask you to consider making a donation to this great, but little know charity, so that they may continue research and ultimately work toward a cure.
Thank you for taking the time to read this narrative and please do consider making a donation. Once again, just to remind you every penny raised goes directly to this organisation.
Many thanks,
Rory
