My son David unfortunately passed away in 2014 at the age of 20. He had a big heart, he loved and lived life to the full. He loved his family and friends. He would go out of his way to help others and strived to make them feel warm and welcome. He loved to laugh and his favorite hobby was to make others laugh.
His other love was for motorbikes. He used to say that he would never get his car license as he loved riding too much! If he had known about The Bike Experience he would have given his time to helping them.
The Bike Experience is a charity that helps disabled people or people who have been in an accident carry on with a passion they love dearly.
I have volunteered with the charity on a track day and helped a man who was in a wheelchair ride a motorbike after an accident he’d had a couple of years before. After completing a couple of laps he came in and I and some other people caught the bike and brought him to a stop. He then went back out and did a few more laps around the circuit. The look on his face was amazing if you can grin like a Cheshire cat he most certainly was.
I got a lot of satisfaction from this day and so I would like to raise some money so the work can continue and the track days can still take place for other people.
The challenge I am doing is the equivalent of walking 2 back to back marathons and is completed in 2 days. In order to complete this challenge I have trained like you wouldn't believe. I go running to build up my cardio, visit the gym at least twice a week and have been on various long walks, the longest being 20 miles. These are nothing compared to how the Iceland challenge is actually going to be. It’s going to be cold, probably wet and very very hilly. Blister plasters are at the ready!!
So please wish me luck and make a donation no matter how small it is all for a good cause. It is a small charity where every penny makes a real difference.
