Our names are Rowan and Fran, we’re sixth form students at Grove College and we’re really excited to be running in the Market Drayton 10k this May to raise money for Lumos.

If you had told us a year ago that we would currently be in the final stages of training for the 10K, we would not have believed you - we had only just begun training for the Shrewsbury 5k Race for Life and the idea of running for 30 minutes, let alone for a whole hour, seemed ridiculous!

We survived and the 5k was such a fantastic experience that we simply had to enter another race. The idea of doing a 10K seemed extremely daunting, but the opportunity to actually run in a race, which we’d only ever helped out at before, was far too good to miss and a great challenge.

We joined Market Drayton Junior Running Club just after Christmas and we’re really glad that we did. We are so grateful for all the help and support they’ve given us. We also go running together every Sunday no matter the weather!

The only decision we had left was to choose our charity. Through our slight obsession with Harry Potter we’d heard about Lumos but didn’t know much about it. We did some research and were shocked and extremely upset to discover that hundreds of children, many of whom have living parents or extended family members, have no choice but to live in institutions, where they aren’t given the help, individual love and attention that they deserve. Fortunately, Lumos is an incredible charity that strives to provide community solutions to give children the support to live at home with their families, where they belong.
