Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Myself Roxsan Hussain & Isabel's mum Vicky Turner are running The Royal Parks Half Marathon to raise much needed funds for The Isabel Baker Foundation.We've never undertaken a physical challenge like this before, but with families that need financial support in such heartbreaking circumstances we are up for the challenge.

The Isabel Baker Foundation was set up in memory of Isabel Baker. Isabel was diagnosed with Infantile Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia when she was just 3 weeks old.

She under went several rounds of chemotherapy and was due to have a bone marrow transplant when she sadly relapsed meaning the transplant couldn't go ahead.

Isabel underwent another course of chemotherapy for relapsed ALL but the cancer progressed through it. With no other chemotherapy options available, Isabels parents took her to Sheffield childrens hospital where she under went a clinical trial. This treatment failed to work for Isabel.

Palliative treatment was started in May 2015, and Isabel passed away on 12th August 2015 aged 1 year & 8 days old, with her parents by her side.

The charity was set up with 3 main targets;

* To financially support bereaved oncology parents in the months after the loss of their child. At the moment the government does not provide any support for bereaved parents and many face having to return to work 8 weeks after their child's death.

* To provide practical support to oncology parents who face having to spend prolonged periods of time in hospital with their child without any family or friends nearby. This is done by providing things such as food parcels as parents are not entitled to free meals and it can be very expensive buying food from the hospital restaurant every day.

* To review the charity's finances every three months and donate what they can to Leukamia and Lymphoma research. The Isabel Baker Foundation believe it is very important to support research as that is what is necessary to find kinder treatments and cures for children in the future.

The race day falls on the anniversary of Isabel's Christening, so it's a very special day for Vicky & all of Isabel's loved ones.
