In January 2014 my father Stuart died after suffering from a brain tumor diagnosed only six months beforehand. 

My daughter Jasmine, my son Zack, my niece Jo Howard and I – will be running 5km to raise money for Brain Tumour Research at the Imperial College  research facility in Hammersmith, London. This facility is dedicated to the research understanding and treatment of all brain tumours, as at this time there is no cure for this type of tumour - only treatments to try to slow its growth and give patients the best quality of life possible.

It costs £2700 a day to keep the  facility  open and for every £2,700 that we raise, a plaque acknowledging our contribution will be displayed on the BTRC memorial board in the Imperial College London Laboratory building, in Dads memory.

During June 2013, Stuart was on a cruise and after receiving the great news that he had just became a great grand father, he had a nap in a chair on deck and woke up feeling odd. He struggled to walk and remember things and knew that something was wrong. Two months on from the cruise he was diagnosed with a brain tumour and despite having radiotherapy, both his memory and sight failed and he struggled to walk, only getting weaker. Unfortunately there were no more treatment options and on Jan 5th 2014 he passed away in St Luke's hospice.

For those that knew Stuart you would know that for 50 years he worked as an Optometrist, doing all that he could to help people see, saving their eye sight, and to
detecting brain tumours Upon retirement, he volunteered in the local
community in many ways, spending the last 10 years of his life volunteering for St. Lukes hospice driving
Cancer patients to day centres and appointments
