We train hearing dogs for deaf people to provide independence and companionship

Story

**We're still going. I've ran 159 miles in the Sahara, and now I'm going deaf for a day whilst running 100 miles, this just after running 100km only 3 weeks ago.

Thank you for all the support, let's get to £10,000!**

Thank you for visiting my page.

It’s time for me to pay back my debt. For the last seven years I’ve worked in the pet industry, helping to make pet care more affordable. During this time I have found a career in something I love doing, and whilst I’m aware the work I do helps to care for animals, I feel I can still do more to give back.

I’ve decided to raise money for Hearing Dogs. Deafness can be a very isolating and lonely disability. Hearing Dogs for Deaf People train dogs as a practical alternative to technical equipment. A hearing dog offers companionship, confidence, security and independence to a person with hearing loss by alerting them to sounds.

So, what am I doing to support thisawesome charity?
Despite initial ideas from friends (Crazy Running Man, The Toeless Bloke) it’s something I’m calling #RunEmailGuy. Why this? Well I like to run and I’m fond of sending the odd email campaign.

What is #RunEmailGuy?
It’s essentially ten running events (maybe more – send me suggestions!) over fourteen months with the last being the most challenging.

- Silverstone Half Marathon - 15th March 2015 – 13.1 miles
- Brighton Marathon - 12th April 2015 – 26.2 miles
- London Marathon - 26th April 2015 – 26.2 miles
- Edinburgh Marathon - 31st May 2015 – 26.2 miles
- Middlesex Uni Marathon Study - 13th June 2015 – 26.2 miles
- Osterley Park Summer 10k- 20th June 2015 – 6.2 miles
- Great North Run 2015 - 13th September 2015 – 13.1 miles
- Ealing Half Marathon - 27th September 2015 – 13.1 miles
- XNRG The Druids Challenge - 6th November 2015 – 84 miles
- Kingston Uni Study - 19th November 2015 – 50 miles
- Osterley Park Winter 10k – 12th December 2015 – 6.2 miles

- Marathon Des Sables - 8th April 2016 – 159 miles
- London Marathon 2016 – 24th April 2016 – 26.2 miles
- Great North Run 2016 – 11th September 2016 – 13.1 miles
- XNRG Humanity Direct – 22nd October 2016 – 31 miles

Most of these races may ring a bell or you might have even taken part in them, but it’s likely you’re not so familiar with the Marathon Des Sables (MDS). Ranked by the Discovery Channel as the toughest foot race on earth, this multi-stage event is set in one of the world’s most inhospitable climates - the Sahara desert.

With nothing but sand dunes in my line of sight, I will run 5.5 marathons (156miles) in 5 days. The rules require you to be self-sufficient, which means I must carry everything needed to survive on my back, with the exception of water. Luckily we’re given a tent to hide us away from the Sand People (more formally known as Tusken Raiders!) while we sleep at night.
