Story
Very soon I will be tackling the Edinburgh version on the Monopoly board to raise money for the Think Pacific Foundation.
The Think Pacific foundation support and inspire hundreds of children, teenagers and communities living in the poorest rural areas of Fiji. Tasked by the Fijian Ministry, they work to support & teach Fijian teachers within rural schools and pioneer extra-curricular activities, youth clubs and grass roots sports coaching. As well as this they also organise sports and youth outreach projects across several communities in Fiji. The reality of Fiji is that over one third of Fiji's population live in poverty, and many children are denied basic support - specifically education. Many rural schools are understaffed and severely lacking in basic materials. As well as this, Fiji was devastated in February 2016 by Cyclone Winston - that completely destroyed villages and communities. Think Pacific are working on the ground to gather support and emergency supplies for those affected - including food, first aid, clothing, shelter etc. The money made from my fundraising effort will go straight to the charity to supply more resources for the work they are doing.
In 2017, I will be taking on my own new life journey & joining the Think Pacific expedition team for 3 months, volunteering with them to achieve their charity objectives and deliver their projects. As much as I know that this is going to be a tough & challenging time, I know that it will be immensely rewarding, and I can't wait to even make a small difference to people's lives in Fiji.
THE CHALLENGE
Me & my very handy partner in crime (Peter!) will be taking on the 22.7 mile trip across all of the Edinburgh streets/destinations on the Monopoly board. The Edinburgh monopoly board game has streets/landmarks all across the city, from Newhaven Harbour to Barnton Road, Murrayfield stadium, and finishing off at good old Waverley Station! All in all, we will be visiting 23 locations - in which we'll take pictures of each to keep track of our big journey!
We'll be doing a mixture of running/walking/piggie-backing/dragging - but we will complete it! Regardless of our map reading skills - we get it done!
But... just to add another twist to the tale! We have decided to do this dressed up! I will be putting on my disguise as the Monopoly man and Pete (as he's always up to trouble!!) will be the man in jail.
Watch out for us on the streets of Edinburgh on Saturday 16th July - I don't think you can miss us! Please donate for a brilliant cause.
