Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Some of you will be aware that I have suffered from depression and anxiety for several years. I've had a lot of medical treatment during that time, and also have been - and continue to be - assisted by some great charities.
Anyone can suffer from depression, and in fact some statistics say that 1 in 4 people will...so it is something that we should all be informed about.
AWARE are one such charity, in fact the only charity in NI working solely with people who have depression & bipolar. They run awareness sessions and support groups around the country, as well as a telephone helpline and email support. Their vital work takes money though...which is why events like this are organised.
Anyone who knows me knows that I am usually worried/anxious/scared about something. So what on earth am I thinking, volunteering to do this?! Well, they're doing important work, and I want to help make sure it continues. I picked this event rather than a sponsored walk or something , because I figured that if I was going to ask people to put their hands in their pockets, I needed do something that would make them go 'wow!' I mean, I couldn't justify asking for money to do something I'd find easy, right? I'm not fit enough to run a marathon or cycle round Ireland, so this is it! In my mind, jumping out of a plane (even while attached to someone else!) is a big deal...for someone with anxiety, it's an even bigger deal!!
I really appreciate anything you are able to donate-every penny counts. More than that, the charity will really appreciate it.
Thank you all for your support.
