Story
We'd like to start by thanking you for sparing the time to visit our Just Giving page. By coming here and reading our story, whether you can donate or not, is a sign of support and for that, we are extremely grateful.
The challenge we have set ourselves is the Coast to Coast walk, a 192 mile (approximately) trek from Robin Hoods Bay to St Bees via the North Yorkshire Moors, the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District National Park.
*We now have a start date of Monday 5th October*
As some of you are already aware, cancer has been prevalent throughout our lives over the past 5+ years. I lost my Mum in 2013 and my Dad has had prolonged suffering after being diagnosed back in 2010.
Tony, who has severely damaged saliva glands as a side effect of treatment, still suffers day in and day out with difficulty in tasks many of us take for granted, such as eating and drinking. Despite this, back in 2012 he completed a 50-mile, four-day trek across the Grand Canyon. Alongside my sister Kim, the two of them battled with severe heat and humidity to raise over £8000 for Weston Park Cancer Hospital. They pushed themselves physically and emotionally as a thankyou for the sheer dedication and continued commitment of all the staff at Weston Park Cancer Hospital in Sheffield.
Unfortunately, due to study commitments, I couldn’t join them on that trek. Since then I have longed to carry out my own personal challenge and attempt to raise even more money for the charity. That time has now arrived and in October, me, my Dad and family friend, Martin Knowles, will be embarking on this journey. The support Weston Park provided to my parents deserves sincere respect and praise and this is a way of trying to repay some of that kindness.
I thank you in advance for your kindness and I hope we can raise as much money as possibly. This is a self-funded trip so I ask you to please try to give generously to this great cause. Just Giving sends your donation straight to the Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity and automatically reclaims Gift Aid if you’re a UK taxpayer, so your donation is worth even more.
If you can’t give, or you can and would like to support us further, we will be doing bucket collections and wristband selling, so please get in touch if you would like to participate in that.
Finally, we would be extremely grateful for any of you to join us at some point throughout. Please contact either of us and we will be happy to provide you with further information on the walk.
Thanks again for reading.
Ryan & Tony
