Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I would like to tell you about the charity London Children’s Ballet (LCB) and I am very excited to be performing in their 20th Anniversary production ‘Nanny McPhee’ in April this year.

London Children’s Ballet is a non-profit making charity that each year gives talented dancers aged 9-16 the opportunity to perform as a company of 60 children in a professional ballet production. The performances take place in the Peacock Theatre in the West End and are attended by the public over a few days in April. Also LCB has a ‘Ballet for £1’ programme where 2 performances are dedicated to local school children and to charities for children and the elderly. This means that people who might not be able to afford to see a ballet have the opportunity to enjoy and be inspired by the LCB performances.

Over 5 months each child in the company benefits from over 150 hours of free tuition from leading professional ballet dancers. Although it would cost LCB over £3000 per child to participate, each child receives this experience for free.  LCB receives no public funding and ticket sales only cover less than half the costs.  If every dancer had to pay for the tuition, so many would not be able to afford it and so would never have the chance to be part of this wonderful experience.

LCB also selects dancers to join one of the 4 touring companies that dance a smaller version of the ballet that can be taken to special educational needs schools and care homes for the elderly.  This brings ballet to people who are physically unable to attend LCB’s main performances at the Peacock Theatre.

Last year I was part of one of the touring companies that performed ‘The Secret Garden’.  Lots of the children we visited had physical and/or severe learning disabilities and it was amazing to see the positive effect our dancing had on them.  It was also really lovely talking to the elderly people afterwards and seeing how much they all enjoyed watching us perform.

So please donate to help LCB keep the amazing experience and wonderful opportunity open to so many dancers and bring the pleasure of ballet to the widest audience possible. I feel so lucky to be part of such a rewarding charity.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
