Story
In approximately 1 month I am planning to be subject to full body wax in the interest of charity; or more specifically, charities. I hope to raise money for two charities close to my heart, SOS Africa (http://www.sosafrica.com/) (https://www.facebook.com/SOSAfricaCharity), and the Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA) (http://www.phassociation.uk.com/) (https://www.facebook.com/groups/125342770826215/).
This will take place at the Sarah Hurst Beauty Studio (http://www.sarahhurst.co.uk/) on the 25th of September, and will be recorded, with a video highlighting and proving the pain I've gone through to be posted on facebook, justgiving and youtube for hilarity and to encourage the charitable donations I know you all have it in you to give.
Let’s make one thing clear though, I’m not inflicting this much pain on myself unless the charities make a significant amount out of it. Therefore I have decided that if I reach my target of £2000, in donations, by the 25th September 2013, I will become hairless from the neck downwards (yes that means everything).
If I fail to reach my target, I will wax parts of my body, proportionate to the amount raised as listed below.
EVERYTHING - £2000
Legs, arms, back & chest - £1700
Legs, arms & back - £1300
Legs & arms - £1000
Legs & one arm - £700
Legs - £500
One leg - £200
I am also planning to set myself an additional target, where in addition to the full body wax I will also SHAVE MY HEAD if the total amount donated is more than or equal to £2500 by any point within 3 months of the full body wax.
So please everyone dig deep and get donating to support me and the pain I will undoubtedly go through, you know you want to!
I have set up my charity donations page on Just Giving. As PHA are not registered with virgin money (which money to be split between multiple charities) I have created two pages on just giving, one for PHA (http://www.justgiving.com/PHAwax) and one for SOS Africa (http://www.justgiving.com/SOSAfricawax) and linked them together using a team page (http://www.justgiving.com/teams/FullBodyWax).
Therefore I would ask that anyone donating money please split it manually between the two charities when donating on just giving, although if you strongly feel that you only want to donate to one of the chosen charities this is possible, but i'd prefer to keep it a fair split.
Just click on one of the links above to donate!
If you are unable to donate straight away, but would like to pledge money that you will eventually donate, please message me on here or email john.nolan88@hotmail.co.uk, with your name, phone number and how much you would like to donate. This will then be added to the justgiving pages and put towards my target for the day of the waxing, and will have to be donated in full within 3 months of the full body wax taking place.
The kind people at Sarah Hurst Beauty Studio have agreed to donate their time and materials to the waxing, and have been nothing but helpful whilst this has been organised. So please take a look at their website to see the treatments they have on offer and whether they are of interest to you.
The Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA UK) is the only charity in the UK especially for people with pulmonary hypertension (PH). They are committed to helping improve the lives of people with PH, and supporting the PH community in the UK. A good friend of mine was diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) approximately 6 ½ years ago. She has lived with this condition over the years with a strength that the majority of us could not match and it is a testament to her personality and character that she continues to get involved in activities that many others with PH would not consider themselves able for, and does without ever asking for special treatment from her friends.
The SOS Africa Children's Charity is a small, non-profit, UK registered, predominantly volunteer-run Somerset charity, which funds the education and care of underprivileged African township children. I am donating to this charity as it was created in 2003 by Matt Crowcombe, a friend I met while I was at Swansea University. It is a small charity that ensures that all money goes towards funding children’s education in South African townships, and over the last ten years has gone from strength to strength.
