UU is aiming to raise £10,000 for Salford Young Carers (part of the Gaddum Charity - registered Charity Number 507162). It is estimated that there are over 3,000 young people carrying out caring tasks within the city of Salford. This includes significant caring tasks and responsibility for another person which would normally be taken by an adult.
The aim of Salford Young Carers is to develop systems that enable all young carers to access support and help reduce inappropriate caring.
At any one time, they work with around 180 high level intensive carers aged 17 and under, the youngest at present is only 6 years of age. In addition, they work with a further 130 young carers aged 18 to 24.
The Young Carers Service, in partnership with the Lowry Theatre, has produced a short film about the lives of young carers in Salford which was devised and written by young carers themselves.
Please take the time to watch the video which is a true inspiration to many of the young carers out there. The film is available to view at:
Please dig deep and help make a difference. Thank you in advance for your kind generosity and support.
