Story

Hey guys,

Some of you may or may not know Martin, but he was a good friend of mine from Reading University who has been affected with ME Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Martin has been fighting this debilitating illness for the past 4 years which affects between 120,000 and 240,000 people in the UK, but which is not well understood nor, in many cases, properly recognised.

I share Martin’s love of all things connected with the ocean so thought it was fitting that we raise some money for him by swimming the English Channel! Fellow Reading University students Jon Bury, James Goymour, myself plus a token Australian, Dave Glasgow, will be swimming the 22 miles in relay on a day between the 27 August and 2 September, depending on wind / tide, this summer. For the avoidance of doubt there will be no wetsuits allowed, cold water swim training here we come.......

We will all have to complete a two hour qualifying swim in Dover harbour as soon as the water is warmer than 15 degrees!!!!!! We will keep you posted of our progress so watch this space!

This is going to be a big challenge so please dig deep and support this very worth cause.

Many thanks

Sam, Jon, Dave and James
