In September 2016 we will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania in order to raise funds for the Derbyshire Children's Holiday Centre..
WHY?....
A holiday is something that many of us take for granted, but for these children who visit the specialist holiday centre in Skegness it is a rarity, even a one off. Many of them have never been away and many of them may never get the opportunity. some of these children have come from vunerable back grounds, some story's are just unimaginable, and these children can be exposed to such enviroments. This charity aims to build their confidence, self esteem, as well as providing memories that last a lifetime or for just one week they can enjoy just being on holiday, and just being a child.
DCHC currently have 450 places per season running from April -October, they are aiming to raise a further £170.000 to take to take an extra 250 children, totalling to 700 places.
Facts...At 5,895 meters (19,340 feet) above sea level, Mount Kilimanjaro is the tallest mountain in Africa and the tallest freestanding mountain in the world! It is a volcano and is classed as dormant, rather than extinct!
First climbed in 1889.
3-7 people die every year.
Youngest person to ever climb aged 7
Oldest 84Also the highest cricket game ever recorded .Those of you who know me well will be aware that I’m not much of a climber, although i’m happy to go for a walk, as long as there are pubs along the way! However, Kilimanjaro is a completely different! It will be 7 whole days of climbing. The BIGGEST challenge of my life! Don’t get me wrong, it will be an amazing, once in a lifetime experience…but trust me when I say this is no holiday- I will be working my socks off! My greatest fear is getting altitude sickness, which I could start to feel after 3,000m. There is no way to avoid this or predict it, but I will train hard to get as fit as possible and hopefully build my mental stamina at the same time!
you sponsoring me will go directly towards helping the DCHC, it won't go towards the cost of the trip in any way.
If I STILL haven’t convinced you, then here are a few more great reasons to donate:Feeling Good: It is a scientific FACT that donating to charity makes you feel good :-) The pleasure centres of the brain are activated by the process of giving, to give you a “warm glow” feeling, even if it does not directly benefit you.Personal Experience: We all have a heart! If there is anything good you do today, this week, this month this year. Please LET IT BE THIS anything absolutely anything will be appreciated. Just knowing that I have that support behind me from my friends and family will push me that bit more. You will become that one more person I'm pushing myself for.
Cash: I’m not asking for a big wedge of notes! Even your pennies will make me happy! If you can’t afford to donate or just want to help, how about helping me spread the word? Pass this page on to friends and family!, or comment some words of encouragement. Share this storyFacebookTwitterEmail
