Story
In celebration of the 10th year of the Whitstable Community Samba Band, Samba Pelo Mar, we have dedicated 2016 to raising £10,000 for Pilgrims Hospices in memory of our friend and supporter Jon Bird.
Many of us have experienced first-hand the work of the hospices and are aware of the valuable support they provide to patients and their families at a stressful and difficult time. Last year they cared for our friend Jon Bird, who died last summer. A talented artist, film-maker, photographer and cartoonist, Jon's generosity and humour touched the lives of so many of the people he met. He lives on through his work and in our memories.
Jon was a great supporter of the band from its earliest days and his dedication was unwavering. Over the years, he has filmed and photographed us every step of the way. He was always there behind the scenes to offer support, give advice on all things technical, and above all to be a terrific friend! With this fundraising we want to show our love and gratitude to Jon and his family.
You can check out our Facebook page for details of specific events as well as getting progress updates. We'll also be doing what we do best and getting outside to entertain you with our rhythmic samba beats! There are a number of ways you can help with our challenge:
