Story
Friends and family, its not often I ask you for money but I’d be so grateful if you could sponsor us! Sue and I will be doing the Go Commando course at Hever Castle on Saturday 12th November (www.commandoseries.co.uk). The obstacle course includes replicas of the Royal Marines Endurance, Assault and Tarzan courses (the official Commando test). Maybe, no biggie for a lot of you, but most of you may already know that Sue is totally blind and has partial hearing loss, so I guess this adds a totally different dimension for both of us! My role is sighted guide and we will be using a guide tether for most of the course (where practicable). We hope to raise money for Goalball UK (www.goalballuk.com). Goalball is a sport designed in 1946 to provide rehab for guys who were left visually impaired from combat. As far as we are aware its the only sport that is specifically designed for those with a visual impairment. Please dig deep, I have seen first hand how this inclusive sport positively affects the confidence, mental health, self esteem and fitness of both children and adults alike with a visual impairment.
From a players prospective goalball is fun, exciting, inclusive and a unique sport to play. I have met some great people through goalball and goalball makes a big difference to peoples lives. It would be amazing to raise a good amount for Goalball UK and give back to a sport I love.
Thanking you all in advance. Sue and Sandra.
