Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats in support of Action4Diabeitcs!
Action4Diabetics is a new frontline charity providing care and support to young type 1 diabetics across South East Asia.
A4D operates in countries where the insulin and blood testing kits needed to treat the condition are not freely available. Children from disadvantaged backgrounds are very unlikely to receive any treatment at all. If a child is successfully diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, which is not always the case, then it is unlikely that their family will be able to afford to care for them. A4D is able to provide the essential medicines and education that the families need for the child to live a full and active life.
The sad reality at present is that without A4D many of these children do not survive. If they are unable to control their blood sugar levels, it can take over 6 months for a child to die and it is a painful, slow death.
There are currently 50 children on the A4D programme across Myanmar, Cambodia and Thailand but they are looking to expand. With our help they want to move into Indonesia and Laos and aim to have at least 300 people on the programme by 2020.
A4D are a new, ambitious charity that really do save lives and provide hope for the future, not just to the person with the condition but also to their families. This is why I have chosen to support them and this is also why any donations would be greatly appreciated!
