Story
"I have to very sadly tell you that the man that inspired us to start this died on 2 July just 7 weeks into our challenge. Our families hearts are broken to lose such a loved man and such a brave, funny and kind Dad and Grandad - we are carrying on the challenge in his honour now and hope his bravery helps us. I have left the originally wording of our challenge below"
My Dad, Gerald Marshall suffers from CBD a very rare nurological illness that has no cure and is terminal with a life expectancy of five years. My wonderful Dad has had it for five years now and is in the final stages. He cannot walk, move, swallow or now this year talk to us and lies in a nursing home hospital bed. However he knows everything that is going on around him so is in affect trapped in his body. It's a truly terrible illness.
My children Maya and Zachary love their Grandad so wanted to raise money for him after seeing him so ill on his 70th birthday of 9 th May 2015.We came up with the idea of a sponsored giving up of the foods Grandad loved. As he has a feeding tube now he suddenly had to give up wine gums, custard creams and cream eggs so this is what Maya, Zachary and myself have decided to do until his birthday next year 9 May 2016 - there will be no sweets, chocolate or biscuits for the three of us for a year.
I am addicted to skittles, wine gums, black jacks and milk bottles so I will find it so hard and as for Maya and Zachary it will be beyond hard. But we wanted to pick something hard to raise awareness and get research money to show how bad the illness is.
We hope you will sponsor us along the way as you see each month we manage to achieve until we reach my Dad's birthday next year. Please help us raise money for a disease that is so awful so they can find a cure and other people don't suffer like my Dad is.
