Story
Sarah is joining up to 200 adventurers and taking on a unique challenge - trekking 2 marathons in 2 days with wilderness camping under the midnight sun in Iceland. She is doing this challenge in aid of the charity the Farming Community Network (FCN) (www.fcn.org.uk) which works with farmers, providing practical and pastoral support.
Farming in Britain is going through some pretty bad times at present. The prices which farmers are paid for milk, lamb, pigs, beef and cereals have been falling for many months. Over the past 12 months, in northern England, north Wales and the Scottish Borders, farmers have been battered by persistent storms, leaving them with an extensive clearing up operation. All this, in addition to the late payment of the Basic Payment Scheme, has put farmers into serious financial difficulties. These difficulties can become a source of many other problems - problems that affect farming business and farming families. This can also lead to depression which can affect all the members of the family.
FCN has strong standing links with the farming community and agriculture throughout England and Wales. The charity understands how interconnected the farm business and household is and have helped thousands of farmers with problems or issues with their farming business, family & health.
Sarah is a farmer's daughter and is a volunteer for FCN. Outside of her normal day job (a trainee solicitor), she helps out on the family farm with her two sisters and gives her parents support during the busy months of the agricultural year.
Farming and the farming community plays an important part in Sarah's life. She wants to promote the good work of FCN and show her support by partaking in a "two marathons over two days" trek across Iceland in August.
Sarah hopes to raise over £2,000 in aid of Farming Community Network. Please support Sarah in her efforts and support farmers who are outside, all hours, trying to produce the food we need to survive.
