Story
On 3/3/16 I suffered a third missed miscarriage (where you don't know you have lost the baby until a routine scan) in less than 12 months. After this heartache David and I decided that instead of feeling sorry for ourselves and falling to pieces we would be proactive and try to help others in our situation. Since we started fundraising we have had all sorts of blood tests carried out, scans and investigative surgery to try and find answers. Unfortunately we fall into the category of 'unexplained'. Having no answers at all is hard to swallow, but has made us even more determined to raise money for such a worthy cause.
Recurrent miscarriage affects just 1% of couples, but 1 in 4 pregnancies are thought to end in miscarriage. Just one miscarriage is devastating and can leave you feeling empty and lost. Despite the fact that miscarriages are so common they are not understood. Most people who have one will never know why and over half of couples investigated for recurrent miscarriage, like us, never get an answer as to why they go through miscarriages over and over again. Miscarriages are also a taboo subject, nobody talks about it so couples do not get the support or understanding they so desperately need. People often say the wrong things, but if it was more widely talked about people would be more aware of what they should and shouldn't say. It also means that people won't metaphorically cross the street to avoid couples like us.
I want to turn the pain and suffering myself and David have endured into something positive. I want to raise awareness about miscarriages, lift the taboo and raise some money in the process for much needed research into why they occur and towards successful treatments.
Each month we will do an activity which we will fund ourselves, all money raised will go directly to the charity and not funding what we do. There are 9 months left in the year (not including this month) so we will be doing the 9 activities below, some dates need to be confirmed. Some of them may seem straightforward, but if you know us, you will know that they are actually very challenging for us!!

This amazing charity does more than just research miscarriages and recurrent miscarriages, they also carry out research into stillborns, premature births and other pregnancy complications as well as other conditions affecting the health of women and babies. It is a charity that researches things that I am sure have touched quite a few hearts even if you don't talk about it.
