Story

As many family and friends will remember, a few years ago I took part in the white collar boxing event in Singapore, raising several thousand dollars in donations and ticket sales for the Children's Surgical Center in Cambodia.

Although I won't be jumping back in the ring until early 2017, as part of my training efforts I shall be taking part in the Singapore marathon on 4th December and in the process looking to raise awareness and more importantly donations for a cause very close to both my own and my families hearts. A number of years ago my niece was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes from a very young age. For those not aware, Type 1 diabetes is a lifelong disease whereby the pancreas ceases to produce the hormone insulin needed to control the amount of glucose in the blood. This condition can be fatal if not managed and controlled on a daily basis.

Training for a fight or a race is hard work, requires much commitment, discipline and sacrifice, culminating in a final event where these efforts can be showcased for all to see.

Now imagine this sacrifice and discipline is a way of life for you, day in day out you have to control every thing you drink or eat, train yourself not to submit to the cravings that come natural to all of us, having to inject yourself with insulin daily so your body can process food needed to survive. Where there is no final event, indeed each day is a race or a fight in itself, where losing is not an option. Now imagine having to understand and manage this as a 5 year old child.

My niece was extremely lucky and blessed in that the disease was captured early and she not only has the will and fight to move forward but also a loving family to support her in a society that provides the best health care available.

Unfortunately there are many young children around the world that are not so lucky and fortunate. With limited medical or social support available to manage this terrible disease.

Please could you all spare a thought for those less fortunate than ourselves and make a contribution (however big or small) to this very worthwhile cause. I shall be sending this link around to family, friends, colleagues and associates over the coming weeks and campaigning more frequently closer to the race for those last minute donations.

Many thanks for taking the time to read this message.

Cheers

Sat
