Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
We are donating monies to this charity so they may, with resources, help other families keep their loved ones at home to be cared for in a family environment.
Our beautiful Mum passed away on Friday 17th August. We were all with her, holding her hands and speaking to her, so she didn't take that journey alone. She passed very peacefully and all was calm. She had suffered enough over the past few years.
We were very lucky to be able to look after mum at home, with the help of carers , doctors from the Memorial hospital in Shooters Hill visiting us regularly, our dear dad and the four daughters our Mum was given the best care and attention.
Sadly, right at the end, she somehow caught pneumonia and along with other complications our Mum passed away in hospital. Something we never wanted because we were frightened she would suffer there but we now realise it was the best place for us all at the end as they took such great care of her during the four days she spent there. We were able to spend all day and night with her in her own side room, so we made it like home and put up family pictures, put lots of chairs in the room and stayed with her every minute, she was never, ever alone. Thank you so much for the continual care and compassion - ward staff of Ward 2 at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. We couldn't have done it without your genuine care and support.
Mum suffered Alzheimer's from when she was 68, the very first signs appeared then. Through the Alzheimer's years she was no trouble at all, we managed to laugh our way through it most of the time. If we didn't laugh we'd cry. Mum was never aggressive with it and easy to look after.
Mum celebrated her 80th birthday in June. On the 29th June Mum and Dad celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary and we managed to wheel her out in the garden so she could sit in the sun with my dad, it was a lovely, memorable day.
There was no way Mum was going to miss out on those two very special days, spent with her family surrounding her.
I think Mum would be pleased with how we tried to make her so comfortable, I think she would be very happy celebrating her lifetime with dad and she would have had a good old dance to 'All night long' by Lionel Ritchie, her favourite party song. I hope she is proud of her four daughters and I know she will be with us, making sure dad is comfortable and happy. May she now rest in peace, no more pain.
Thank you for all your prayers, cards and flowers that have been arriving since our sad news.
Thank you for your donations
With love
Freda, Barbara,Fiona, Sonia and our dear Dad Frank and our families.
