Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We (myself and Izzy) are raising money by running the Great North Run (half a MARATHON!) for the Friends of the Borders General Hospital (BGH).
We know, from experience, that the staff at the BGH do such an amazing job. This charity is close to both our hearts as the BGH looked after my Dad, Richard Neil. Dad was diagnosed with Mesothelioma - which has an extremely poor prognosis. Despite this, Dad went through a course of chemotherapy at the BGH, to prolong his quality of life. Throughout all his treatment, the staff and the facilities at the BGH meant Dad was able to keep his dignity and enjoy a few more precious months with his family and friends.
It meant a lot to us that Dad was at our engagement party in 2012, and although he was not with us on our wedding day in 2014, he knew our intention to marry.
During Dad's final weeks, he spent more time in the BGH and was looked after so well in what would have been a very scary and uncomfortable time for him. The staff at the Margaret Kerr Unit had a vital role in making my Dad's final days comfortable and peaceful, for which we are eternally grateful. This would not have been possible without fundraising by the Friends of the BGH and other BGH related charities.
I know that we are not likely to raise thousands of pounds, but every donation counts and it will go a long way. Your donation will mean others have access to the great quality of care, treatment and facilities that Dad had access to when they visit the Borders General Hospital.
All the money we raise will be used to invest in new facilities and equipment that the hospital needs. This is vital; it enables the BGH to continue operating at such high standards.
We hope that all our friends and family can make a generous donation to a very worthwhile cause.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So, on Sunday 11th September...we will be running the Great North Run to raise money for the Borders General Hospital, in memory of Richard Neil.
