Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Following an accident and an unsuccessful operation to my back 17 years ago, I was left housebound in constant pain, unable to sit, my left leg was paralysed with a dropped foot and I was unable to touch my back.
After years of suffering and fighting to get help, my GP contacted an old colleague, Professor Welsh, to ask for advice. He thought he could help and I was admitted to St Margaret’s of Scotland Hospice in August 2011. And he really did help!! Professor Welsh and his team changed my medication, came up with an idea to decrease the outer sensitivity on the site of the operation on my back and arranged for an operation on my dropped foot, which subsequently improved my stability and improved my ability to walk with my crutches.
I made a promise to myself that I would try to walk 10k with my crutches within a year of getting home. I got home mid April and I now feel I’m ready, so weather and health permitting I am preparing to attempt this at the end of August sometime. I will be making up my own route, using my pedometer, as I can’t travel yet to compete in an organised event.
We are all so grateful to the hospice and their wonderful staff for everything they have done to improve my quality of life, as by last year things had become dire. We will never be able to thank them enough. Everything that I raise will go directly to the Hospice to say a massive thank you for all their help and support and to help them continue their good work.
