Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Naomi and I are running in support of the YMCA North Tyneside team. They do some brilliant work locally to help the homeless and support many of the young people, communities and families that I work alongside in my role at Norham High School.

Earlier in the year I slept 'rough' for one night to raise awareness about homeless and the work of the YMCA in the local community. This was done alongside some of my dedicated colleagues at Norham.

Naomi will run 1 mile dressed as Wonder Woman on Saturday 10th September. The Junior course starts on the Newcastle side of the River and will take Naomi across to Gateshead via the Swing Bridge. Naomi will then cross back across the Gateshead Millennium Bridge towards the finish line on the Newcastle side. I will run alongside Naomi dressed as Captain America (complete with shield!). She's still at the age when it won't embarrass her....

In addition, I will attempt to run the half marathon on Sunday 11th September from Newcastle to South Shields. Again, dressed as the Captain and attempting to be a hero for the heroes of the YMCA - making a stand with those that are homeless. I'll attempt to do it chaff free - but as you can see the outfit isn't promising anything! Starting in Newcastle upon Tyne the 13.1 mile route takes runners through the city centre towards the River Tyne where thousands of people will cross over the iconic Tyne Bridge, where if I'm lucky, I might get a glimpse of the Red Arrows passing overhead.

From there runners will travel through Gateshead while being entertained many bands on the run. The route, lined by thousands of supporters, leads runners to South Shields where at the top of Prince Edward Road the view of the sea is one of the most welcoming sights along the whole course.

From that point there is just over a mile to go and the crowds get louder as runners make their way down the final straight towards the finish gantry.
