Story
The Earthquake that has shaken Nepal taking a toll on the lives of it's people will be in the media for a short-term, soon forgotten but for the people of Nepal it is a long and hard journey of recovery and rebuilding.
Just pause and think...How must it be for those children to see their homes, their safest place razed to the ground, their loved ones lost and buried.
Over the last week, when I was scared and worried for my family back home I was comforted by the realisation that there are so many caring people in the world who want to help.
We cannot stop natural disasters but out of these situations arise stories of ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Let us be one of them. Let us help these children rebuild their lives.
I have chosen Nepal Youth Foundation (NYF) because they are doing a great job in reaching and helping children and their parents affected in this disaster. They have transferred people who have been moved on from the hospitals but are still in need of medical care to their transitional centre. These are people who have survived the earthquake but have lost their family, house and belongings including food and grains. Many of them were buried for hours when their houses collapsed. Psychological counsellors from one of NYF's other programs have been mobilised to help them heal and recover.
In the last two days NYF has been able to accurately identify priorities and costs. Item most urgently needed together with the costs are shown below:
£100 for providing immediate relief to a family; tarp, mattress, blankets,
some food, some medicine
£200 for taking care of an injured patient or a new mother and her baby
discharged from the hospital and unable to return home for three weeks of
care provided at NYF's Nutritional Rehabilitation Homes
£265 for a family tent with four mattress and four blankets where a family
can spend several months while they rebuild their home.
£535 for a community tent (can be used for group of families or
classrooms) for 20 people with 20 sets of mattresses and blankets where
they can spend several months, until they rebuild their homes/schools
£1,300 for building a seismically safe family home in a village for those whose houses have been destroyed.
Please give whatever you can, every little helpsI would also urge you to take a moment and visit the NYF website where you can read regular updates and watch a video that summarise their work in the past.
thank you for your support
