Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our fundraising page.
Mother and daughter team, Serena and Vanessa, have taken up the challenge of abseiling down 190 feet of the Avon Gorge in April 2014 to raise funds for the Avon Riding Centre for the Disabled.
Serena has been a regular volunteer there for the last 11 years and loves to see the benefits and achievements of the disabled riders, both physically and mentally.
Vanessa is an able-bodied rider at the centre (which is fun for both horse and rider!) and has also done some volunteering there as part of her Duke of Edinburgh award.
Each Riding Centre for the Disabled has to raise it’s own funds for ongoing operations. There is no central funding. The disabled rides are completely run by volunteers, both helpers and instructors, but Avon Riding Centre has around 25 horses and ponies to look after, with a large building including an indoor arena and stables. In addition to their normal expenses the Avon Riding Centre also needs to raise £500,000 towards their land appeal, to enable them to buy the land which they use and to do some much needed repairs on their current building. They have already raised almost half of this and we want to do our bit to help raise the rest. Ownership of the land will mean that the Riding Centre will be able to continue offering the benefits of riding to people of all ages with disabilities in the Bristol area for the foreseeable future. Please help, by giving whatever you can.
Thank you.
