Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
So, for some insane reason, I've decided to run a marathon and I'll be taking part in the 2016 Amsterdam Marathon on Sunday 16th October. With the race fast approaching and the training almost complete, I'm looking to raise some money for charity along the way.
Why Amsterdam? Well, first off, you get to start and finish in the Olympic Stadium which is pretty cool. Secondly, it's mostly flat which definitely helps. Finally, I'd already booked something and won't be around for the Dublin marathon which, in hindsight, would have made things a whole lot simpler!
Either way, it's a whopping 42km (or 26.1 miles in old money) which will take, all going well, under 4 hours to complete. So far, the training has seen me run 400km with about another 150km to do before the big day. You can keep an eye on my training here and I'll be sending out a live tracking link on the day if anyone is interested!
Once again I'm trying to raise money for Pieta House who tackle the issues of suicide and self-harm day after day, issues that have touched every community in Ireland. Since being founded in 2003, they have seen and helped over 20,000 people in suicidal distress or engaging in self-harm. All of their services are free of charge and the staff are fully qualified and provide a professional one-to-one therapeutic service for people who are experiencing suicidal ideation, people who have attempted suicide and people who are engaging in self-harm. They rely on the generosity of the public, whose donations and fundraising make up nearly 90% of their income.
Any donation that you can make will be much appreciated and will go towards improving the support and treatment that Pieta House offer. On my last sponsored run, I raised around €700 and it would be fantastic to beat that amount.
