Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

'My sister-in-law Debs Lawton-Abbott became progressively and gravely ill with ME over a period of years resulting in her eventually becoming completely bed bound and unable to communicate verbally. She became completely intolerant to both light and noise and coupled with other awful symptoms was simply wasting away.

After much internet research, her husband Steve discovered the Yorkshire Centre for Psychological Medicine (YCPM), a specialist ward at the Leeds General Infirmary, that offered the hope of treatment for Debs dreadful illness. After a difficult battle to secure local NHS funding to send her there, she eventually transferred to the ward in mid February 2015.

The treatment she received was by necessity very slow but by concentrating on treating the whole of her in a very holistic and progressive way, miraculous progress was achieved and Debs was able to return home to continue her recovery at the end of August 2015, over six months later.

The work of the YCPM is very specialised and they seem to be unique in the NHS in the very serious psychological illnesses they look to treat. They are a small unit with just eight beds but the improvement in Debs health that they have achieved has been simply amazing.

Her recovery is ongoing but through the fantastic work of the unit she is at home again with her husband and young son, with Joshua absolutely delighted to have his mummy home again.

I hope that you will feel able to support the work of this life changing ward with any contribution being very gratefully received.'

Many Thanks

Shaun Amor
